The Kartini reactor was developed starting at the end of 1974 and operated in January 1979, one of the facilities possessed by the Center for Research of Pure Material and Instrumentation – BATAN Yogyakarta



  1. The group of students of State/Private Schools of Higher Learning, High School Students, Lecturers, Teachers of School of Higher Learning/Senior High School/Junior High School, Participants of Seminars/Courses from Government/Private Institutions.
  2. Submit a letter requesting visitation which shall be received at the PSTA – BATAN Office Administration, minimum 1 (one) month before the visitation is conducted and addressed to:
    Head of the Center for Science and Accelerator Technology
    National Nuclear Energy Agency (PSTA-BATAN)
    Jl.Babarsari Kotak Pos 6101 ykbb Yogyakarta 55281.
  3. Visitation days : Mondays – Thursdays, beginning at 08.00 AM – completed (max. until 11.30 AM.), Saturdays – Sundays, and national holidays the office is closed.
  4. Confirmation of visitation should already have been received at the Sub Section for Letter Affairs, Personnel Affairs, and Scientific Documentation (via telephone/fax) minimal 1 (one) day before conducting the visitation, if within that time there is no news or confirmation whatsoever, the visitation shall be considered cancelled.
  5. The maximum number of participants maximum 55 people (including the teacher/guidance counselor/committee).
  6. Clothes worn should be uniforms/slick/polite (not wearing t-shirts or ¾ trousers), and shoes.
  7. Submit List of Names of the Participants to the Security Post of the Nuclear Security Unit at the time of visitation.


Submit a written Letter of Request to the University/Faculty/Academy/School/ Institution which contaion the Name of the Student, Student School Number, Grade/Level, Faculty, attached with List of scores/Academic Transcript/Report (grades achieved for subjects taken) minimum 1(one) month before the Work/Job Practice/Research is conducted and addressed to:

Period of time:
Practice, minimum 1 (one) month, maximum 3 (three) months;
Research, minimum 6 (six) months, maximum 1 (one) work year.


  1. PSTA – BATAN shall reply the Letter of request officially which shall contain rejection or acceptance of the student.
  2. If PSTA - BATAN is able to assist the student in conducting the Work Practice/Research, the student shall be called and given Consultation forms to conduct consultation with the candidate fostering person in PSTA regarding the Title, Time, and other matters.
  3. The limit of time for consultation is maximum 3 (three) months from the time the letter calling for consultation is received by the student, if coming past the time determined, then it shall be considered as cancelled in conducting the Work Practice/Research in PSTA – BATAN.
  4. After the Consultation form from the student is signed by the Fostering person and Head of the Section in PSTA, approval is further requested to the Head of PSTA – BATAN.
  5. If the Head of PSTA - BATAN gives his approval to the consultation form submitted, then the PSTA shall make an official letter stating that the students is permitted to conduct Work Practice/research.


  1. Every student shall be obliged to:
    1. Before conducting any duty in the laboratory the student must submit :
      1. The Letter of Statement form ( to the Sub Section of PKDI)
      2. Biodata Form (Sub Section of PKDI, Mentor, Security Unit)
      3. Letter Informing Directives of Radiation Protection from BK-3 (to mentor)
    2. Report to the Nuclear Security Unit and Person responsible for the place of Work Practice/Research when arriving and going home.
    3. Wear a Badge which is given by the Nuclear Security Unit during the Work Practice/Research.
    4. Wearing neat/polite clothes (high school students must wear their school uniforms) and shoes.
    5. Bring their stationery and other items (lab clothes) which are needed during the Work Practice/Research.
    6. Behave politely, honestly, and discipline.
    7. Report immediately to the mentor/leader at the place of Work Practice/Research and in school (teacher/lecturer) if there occurs matters which are bringing moral as well as material losses/damage.
    8. Fill in the Form for Changing of Title of Work Practice/Research which is available at the Sub Section for Scientific Documentation if there are constraints in the Work Practice/research, like damage of laboratory equipment and or other constraints.
    9. Fill in the Form for Extension of Work Practice/ Research in the Sub Section for Scientific Documentation, if the Work Practice/Research Permit has expired whereas time is still needed to continue the Work Practice/Research.
    10. The student must bear/take care of the cost of repair or purchase equipment if there are damages/missing of equipment of the Work Practice/Research whether it is purposely or not conducted by the relevant student.
    11. After completion in conducting the Work Practice/Research, the student shall submit :
      1. Evidence of Free of Laboratory and Free from Borrowing Library Books.
      2. Badge.
    12. Make 3 (three) Report copies (the front cover is given the title) of the Work Practice/Research which had been conducted and also contains a Note of Gratitude to the Mentor of BATAN and Head of PSTA, as well as approval/endorsement by the Head of PSTA. This Report Book shall be given to each, 1 (one) for the Mentor, PPIKSN – BATAN, and Library of PSTA – BATAN.
    13. If at the time of examination there is a Presentation of Paper/Final School Duty, the Mentor from PSTA-BATAN must be present in the Institution of the student, therefore the schedule must be conducted on a Saturday, and all the travel costs incurred by the Mentor shall be borne by the Budget of the University/Faculty/Academy/school of the student.
    14. Implementation of the time of Work Practice/Research is 08.00 AM - 15.00 PM and/or adjusted following of the work time of the PSTA-BATAN employees.
    15. PSTA - BATAN does not provide facilities of meals, sleeping accommodation, nor any other free costs to the students.
  2. Every student shall be prohibited :
    1. Conducting Work Practice/Research before completing first the administrative requirements (fill in the forms for Consultation, Statement Letter, Bio-data, etc.)
    2. Change places or changing the title of the Work Practice/Research without the permission from the authorized mentor.
    3. Take photographs/picture in the laboratory/location of the Work Practice/research and the surrounding PSTA-BATAN area without the permission from the Head of PSTA-BATAN.
    4. Bringing in and out of equipment/goods owned by PSTA as well as goods owned by student (for example Laptop, Notebook, Floppy isk/USB, etc.) without the permission of the Mentor and or Head of the Section.
    5. Receiving private guests during the Work Practice/Research without the permission of the Mentor and or Head of the Section.
    6. Using office telephone without permission from the person on duty.
    7. Smoking in the laboratory and other places which is not the place for smoking.
    8. Making commotion, bringing in alcoholic beverages, and other prohibited goods.
    9. Wearing disheveled clothes, T-shirts, and wearing sandals.
    10. Specifically for women students : wearing striking make up, wearing mini dress, high heeled, and tight clothes.
