Born in Semarang, November 6, 1962, Anhar Riza Antariksawan graduated with a bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta in 1986. After earning a postgraduate degree in Energy Physics at the National Polytechnique de Grenoble Institute, France in 1989, he later earned a doctorate from the same Institute in 1993.

Anhar joined BATAN in 1986 as a Researcher at the Center for Reactor Safety Technology Development. Anhar's career as a BATAN's official began as Head of Risk Analysis and Accident Mitigation in 1999. Anhar was promoted to the position of Head of the Center for Reactor Technology and Nuclear Safety for the period 2006-2008. Then Anhar succeeded in serving as Deputy for Basic and Applied Research in 2008-2013, continued to serve as Deputy Head of BATAN for Nuclear Technology Utilization in 2014 - 2016. Now Anhar serves as Head of BATAN and was inaugurated on June 28, 2019.
