According to an organizational regulation signed by The head of National Nuclear Energy Agency, no. 392/KA/XI/2005, The Center of Development of Nuclear Information (PPIN) have duties to perform the development of Nuclear Information. The tasks include the development of information system; the development of computational research in the field of nuclear; the maintenance and services of documentation, books, journals and other scientific publications for public and employee; and the development and maintenance of Computer and the networking system. Each duty above is performed by a division.

In performing the tasks, the PPIN has done some development of information system using open source software, including the development of application software for employee , finance, salary system, and library. Besides the development software system the PPIN also as a task force as service center which serve the whole Batan organization specially in installation and maintenance of Computer Networking system, Installation and maintenance of Internet system, library, and training system for Open source software, such as Linux, IGOS (Indonesia Go Open System). The development of IGOS is a commitment of Indonesian as a country under coordination of Menristek to accelerate the use of open source software as another alternative of licence software. Batan is one of a research center which has responsibility to develop an socialize the use of IGOS specially for government agency.

To support the development and services, PPIN have facilities such as: a library which has capability to be accessed online through internet with the address http://digilib.batan.go.id or http://www.batan.go.id; Laboratorium of computer system and networking. Batan have 5 different locations, each of them have the LAN (local area network) system with optic cable, Hot Spot Area, and internet speed of 1024 kbps.
