In accordance to the Regulation of the Head of BATAN No.14 Year 2013 the Center for Accelerator Technology and Material Process (PTAPB) had changed its name to become the Center for Science and Accelerator Technology (PSTA). PSTA is an R&D Institution of the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) which is located in Yogyakarta, built in the year 1973, at the time it was called the Center for Gamma Research. In the year 1980 changed its name again to become PPBMI until 1985, and based on the Decision of the President RI No. 82 Year 1985, PPBMI was changed to the Center for Nuclear Research of Yogyakarta (PPNY).
With the stipulation of Law No. 10 regarding Nuclear Energy, BATAN conducted reorganization as a follow up action of Decision of the President Number 197 Year 1998 regarding the the national Nuclear Energy Agency, the Head of BATAN made a Decision Letter Number 73/KA/IV/1999 regarding the Organization and Work Procedures of BATAN, PPNY was changed to the Center for Research and Development of Advanced Technology (P3TM). With the reorganization of the national Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) which is regulated by a regulation of the Head of BATAN Number 392/KA/XI/2005 regarding the Organization and Work procedures of BATAN, therefore the P3TM institution changed its name to the Center for Accelerator Technology and Material Process (PTAPB).
In order to implement Article 42 of the Regulation of the President Number 46 Year 2013 regarding the National Nuclear Energy Agency, it is necessary to stipulate the Organization Structure and Work Procedures of the National Nuclear Energy Agency which is regulated by regulation of the Head of BATAN No. 14 Year 2013, therefore the Center for Accelerator Technology and Material Process (PTAPB) changed its name to become the Center for Science and Accelerator Technology (PSTA).
The Center for Science and Accelerator Technology (PSTA) takes place in an area of 6.2 hectares and has the duty to conduct formulation and control of technical policy, implementation, and guidance in the field of research and development of particle physics, process technology, and management of research reactor.
The Center for Science and Accelerator Technology (PSTA) conducts the functions of:
- Implementation in planning affairs, letter administration and archiving, personnel administration, finance, logistics and household, scientific documentation and publication, as well as reporting.
- Implementation of research and development in the field of particle physics;
- Implementation of research and development in the field of process technology;
- Implementation of research reactor management;
- Implementation in monitoring work safety;
- Implementation of quality assurance;
- Implementation of nuclear security; and
- Implementation of other duties given by the Deputy for Science and Application of Nuclear Technology.
Vision of PSTA : PSTA IS GREAT (Reliable and Excellent, Barometer in Accelerating Technology)
The realization of the Center for Science and Accelerator Technology (PSTA) possessing qualified personnel and reliable and excellent equipment as well as becoming a barometer for Science and Accelerator Technology and process technology in the national as well as regional level.
Mission :
- Development of science and accelerator technology, nuclear process and instrumentation which reliable and benefit to the public.
- Support the policy of the government in the field of minerals through development of pilot plan for purifying LTJ and Zr.
- Strengthen the role of the Kartini reactor as an education and training reactor (through development of the hybrid and IRL simulators) and as a facility for TAN application.
- Applying an integrated management system for the quality management system, R&D Pranata Laboratory, testing laboratory, safety management system, environment and security.
- Dissemination of basic nuclear science in the areas of Yogyakarta, Solo, Semarang, and Purwokerto).

- The Section for Office Administration;
- Section for Particle Physics;
- Section for Process Technology;
- Section for Reactor;
- Section for Safety of Work and Technique;
- Quality Assurance Unit;
- Nuclear Security Unit; and
- Functional Officials Group
Organization Structure of PSTA
SECTION FOR OFFICE ADMINISTRATION
The Section for Office Administration has the duty to conduct planning affairs, letter and archive administration, employee administration, finance, logistics and household, scientific documentation and publication as well as reporting.
The Section for Office Administration holds functions in :
- implementation of planning affairs, letter and archive administration, employee administration, administration in scientific activities, documentation and publication, and reporting;
- implementation financial affairs; and
- implementation of logistics and household affairs
The Section for Office Administration consists of :
- Sub Section for Letter Administration, Employee Administration, and Scientific Documentation;
- Sub Section for Finance; and
- Sub Section for Logistics.
THE SECTION FOR PARTICLE PHYSICS
The Section for Particle Physics has the duty to conduct research and development in the field of particle physics.

SECTION FOR PROCESS TECHNOLOGY
The Section for Process Technology has the duty to conduct research and development in the field of material process technology of non nuclear fuel.
INTRODUCTION
According to HERMAN, D.Z. (2007), the hypothetical resources of the mineral zircon deposit which is measured around the river flow (Das) in South East Kalimantan in the year 2008 is about 6.556 million tons with the content of zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) of about 2.615 million tons. The hypothetical resources of the mineral zircon deposit as much as this could supply 8 factories for processing the zircon sand of 10.000 tons/years to become zirconium oxichloride (ZrOCl2.8H2O) and zirkonia (ZrO2) industrial standard for 30 years.
According to SUDARTO (2008) the zircon mineral deposit which has not been measured in South East Kalimantan is predicted to be about 5,410,484.720 tons. The zirkon sand (ZrSiO4) if processed like the Figure possessing a very strategic value for the nuclear industry as well as other industries.
THE SECTION FOR REACTOR
The Section for Reactor has the duty to conduct management of research reactor and holding the functions:
- Implementation of planning operation, maintenance, and empowerment of the research reactor; and
- Implementation of management of nuclear fuel element, accountancy of nuclear material, and decommissioning of research reactor.
The Section for Reactor consists of:
- Sub Section for Operation and Maintenance, has the duty to conduct planning of operation, the operation, maintenance, and empowerment of the research reactor.
- Sub Section for Accountancy of Nuclear Material and planning of Decommissioning has the duty to conduct management of nuclear fuel element, accountancy of the research reactor.

THE SECTION FOR SAFETY OF WORK AND TECHNIQUES
The Section for Safety of Work and Techniques has the duty to conduct monitoring of work safety, radiation protection, and operation, maintenance, and development of the electromechanical and instrumentation facility for research and development of accelerator technology.
The Section for Safety of Work and Techniques consists of:
- The Sub Section for Work Safety and Radiation Protection has the duty to conduct monitoring of work safety and environment, radiation protection, mitigation of nuclear emergencies, and waste management.
- The Sub section for Techniques has the duty to conduct operation, maintenance and development of the electromechanical and instrumentation facility for research and development of applied nuclear technology.
The development of radiation detection device was initiated with the engineering design of the Analog Survey Meter which is used for detecting beta and gamma radiation. This Surveymeter was started to be pioneered in the 1980s. The feature most highlighted of this surveymeter is that it showed the radiation exposure rate using a needle. The engineering and perfection of the surveymeter continued to be conducted until the year 2000s.

NUCLEAR SECURITY UNIT
The Nuclear Security Unit has the duty to conduct security of nuclear installation, surrounding environment, and personnel in the form monitoring, prevention and mitigation in the Nuclear Area of Yogyakarta.
