The vision of BATAN is prepared with considerations to the national development planning and the national R&D policy which is under the National Long Term Development Planning (RPJPN) 2005-2025, the National Medium Term Development Planning (RPJMN) 2015-2019, and R&D national strategy 2015-2019.

The vision of RPJPN 2005-2025 is directed for the realization of Indonesia as an independent state, advanced, fair and prosperous. Meanwhile, the RPJMN 2015-2019 stresses on the development of competitive economy superiority which is based on local natural resources, quality HR, and the capability in science and technology.
By giving attention to these matters, it could be concluded that the two key words which is desired to be achieved from the national development in the long term, is welfare and independency. One of the efforts of th4e government in the medium term is to realize the two matters through increase in capability and superiority in the national science and technology, including the quality of HR possessed.
BATAN as a government institution which has been given the mandate to conduct research, development and empowerment of nuclear science and technology, feels responsible to create the science and technology superiority, especially in the regional level.
Because of that, the vision of BATAN for the years 2015-2019 is as follows:
BATAN is Superior in the Regional Level, Having the role in Acceleration of Welfare Leading to the Nation’s Self Reliance

In realization of the vision of BATAN for 2015-2019 especially in realization of the superiority of BATAN, the vision therefore needs to be elaborated into missions which could strengthen the duty and function of BATAN in conducting research, development and empowerment of nuclear science and technology.
The missions that are desired to be conducted by BATAN are as follows:
1. Formulation of the national policy and strategy of nuclear science and technology,
2. Development of nuclear science and technology which is reliable, sustainable and beneficial to the people,
3. Strengthen the role of BATAN as leader in the regional level, and having an active role internationally,
4. Conduct prime services in utilization of nuclear science and technology by stressing on the satisfaction of the stakeholders,
5. Conduct dissemination of nuclear science and technology by stressing on the principles of benefit, safety and security.
