Djarot Sulistio Wisnubroto was born in Yogyakarta on 1st January 1963, graduated from Nuclear Technique of the University of Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta. He was appointed as Head of BATAN starting September 2012. Previously he was the Deputy Head of BATAN for Development of Technology for Nuclear Material Cycle and Engineering (2010-2012) and Head of the Radioactive Waste Technology Center of BATAN (2006-2010).

His post graduate studies (Master and Doctoral degree) were completed in the Nuclear Engineering, University of Tokyo, Japan in the year 1990 and 1993. Active in several international organizations especially those in connection with radioactive waste handling like becoming member of the International Radioactive waste Technical Committee IAEA beginning in the year 2010 until now. Previously he was involved in the IAEA project regarding radioactive waste management security since the year 2006.
